Global Civil Society Letter to the Inter-Agency Expert Group on SDG Indicators:
In Relation to Target 3.8 to Achieve Universal Health Coverage
Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC Day) is a global coalition of organizations worldwide that stands for equality in health #healthforall. CIMSA (Center for Indonesian Medical Students) as an Indonesian medical students’ organization, has a vision to create a healthier and more prosperous Indonesia where people may get equal opportunities in health and education. Therefore, CIMSA joins this coalition to contribute more on the realization of universal health coverage.
On July 7th 2015, The Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators proposed a list of priority indicators for the post 2015 development agenda. In that proposal, there are two suggests for Target 3.8: Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to safe, effective, quality, and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all, which are coverage of tracer interventions and fraction of the population protected against catastrophic/impoverishing out-of-pocket health expenditure.
Universal Health Coverage has two linked concepts that must be considered together. That two linked concepts are universal service coverage and universal financial protection. Effective tracking on both concepts will be crucial on the realization of UHC and SDG
Action for Global Health as one of UHC Day core partner calls the coalition to support and advocate these two concepts as a consideration for target 3.8 priority indicators by signing a global society letter to the Inter-Agency Expert Group on SDG Indicators.
CIMSA with 104 organizations all over the world, contribute by signing this letter and give support in this advocacy. We hope with this contribution, CIMSA has been took part in a huge impact of UHC and SDG realization.
